Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. With its time-tested methods and practices, acupuncture originating in China more than 4,000 years ago and has finally become more mainstream in the United States.
One of the purposes of acupuncture is to ensure that the energy pathways in the body, commonly referred to as Chi, is moving and flowing freely throughout the body. By ensuring that the body is in complete harmony, then one may be considered to be in a state of good health. Acupuncture is accomplished by stimulating specific acupuncture points along a Meridian which is the channel and direction in which the Chi flows.
"I like to think of acupuncture Meridians as the highways and roadways in which we drive on. My job is to ensure that the flow of traffic is smooth and uninterrupted."
— Dr. Joe Nalbone, D.C.
While acupuncture in itself is a form of primary health care in Asia, it is utilized in our wellness center as a means to treat and prevent conditions such as arthritis, allergies, indigestion, blood pressure problems, and pain relief just to name a few.
Does acupuncture hurt?
One of the great things with acupuncture is that it seldom hurts. People unfamiliar with acupuncture tend to get a little nervous thinking about needles. Unlike a typical hollow-point hypodermic syringe, acupuncture needles have a solid point and are very thin — usually as fine as the hair on your head. In addition, there are also non-needle ways to administer acupuncture, including electrical stimulation.
